Tadpole 2 Championship to the Green Giants

Congratulations to the Green Giants for their victory in the Championship Final of the Tadpole 2 Playoff Tourney.  The victory came at the expense of the previously unbeaten Orioles in a tense and hotly contested Final game. It was not a surprise to most observers that these teams were facing each other in the Final.   The Giants were looking for revenge from last year’s Tad 1 playoff when they were eliminated by the same group of kids.  The Orioles had beaten the Giants twice during the 2013 season, although the last matchup had been an extremely tight, 1 run game where the Orioles had to come from behind in the bottom of the 6th and final inning.  Both teams knew that this one could go either way.

On this day it went the way of the Green Giants. They were full credit for the win. They came up with the runs they need at key times, and the defensive plays they needed to snuff out any rallies the Orioles tried to mount.

Kids pitch the first two innings in Tadpole 2, and both teams came up with some great pitching performances, including work from the mound by Bryn Alexander for the Giants and Ronan Sexton for the Orioles, who both had shutout innings. As the “coach-pitch” innings followed, the lead went back and forth, with only a few runs separating the teams going into the final inning. At one point the Orioles looked to take a lead, but a fantastic double play by Nolan Watrin ended the Orioles’ rally and, in the end, proved to be the turning point. The Green Giants took their final at bats and broke it open . The Orioles just couldn’t make the plays that they had been making all year long and the Green Giants piled up runs for a big lead.  With their final chances, the Orioles were unable to solve the excellent defence of the Giants, and that was it, the Green Giants were the Playoff Champions of Tadpole 2!
