Mini Mosquito at Lions Park

The Abby Red Mini Mosquito team was at home on Monday night against the Gold squad of the Ridge Meadows Royals. The Angels looked rusty to start the game, as much of the team had been in Kelowna with older brothers and hadn’t practiced for several days.  Starting pitcher Trey Gairdner had some good stuff going, but our defence couldn’t support him as the Ridge hitting led to errors in the field. Ridge got out to a 4-0 lead which put the pressure on the Abby bats to reply. The top of the order did just that, tying the game at 4-4.  However, from there the Ridge bats continued to rack up a combination of hits and walks, and the Angels fell behind. Heading into the 6th and final inning, the local boys trailed by 4.  Needing a shutdown inning, Ronan Sexton struck out three Royals batters to keep the game in reach.  The bottom part of the Abby batting order came through, with Matti Meleg, Garret Ostrom  and Bones Coleman loading the bases. Tyne Alexander drew a walk to get on and score one. Bryn Alexander has been on fire at the plate, and he came through in a big way, knocking out deep blast that scored three more, including brother Tyne who scampered in to tie the game.  With the winning run standing on third, the Royals defence came up with a big play on a grounder to first that was agonizingly close to going foul, but did not.  The game ended in a 15-15 tie.  The Angels wanted a win but the large crowd of family and other supporters were happy with the entertainment value of an exciting comeback to tie.
