Angels 2013 Provincial Champions in Mosquito A

MosquitoAABBOTSFORD MOSQUITO A ANGELS CROWNED 2013 PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS

The provincial championships in Cloverdale this weekend were an amazing and wonderful marathon of baseball that was completely dominated by the commitment, hard work and excellent baseball played by our own Mosquito “A” All Stars.

We started off with a double header on Friday facing the first place Richmond Chuckers and the bats were amazing, the pitching was dominant and the lead was never given up in our 13-8 win.

Then we went into the afternoon and faced the little known Oceanside Reds. Our boys were having a tough start and fell behind quick. We were going into the open 6th inning behind 12-5, and that was when our boys decided to prove that destiny and something special was at hand.

We scored 14 runs in the open inning and shut them down in the bottom of the 6th for an unbelievable 19-12 win!!

Saturday’s double header brought on more challenges with the top seeded Cloverdale Spurs in the morning. More incredible pitching, more incredible batting and even more great fielding lead to a complete shutdown of the top seeded Spurs 7-1.

The next challenge was to go 4-0 in the round robin and standing in the way of that was the Quesnel Blue Jays. But once again our bats fielding and pitching were too much for another team, bringing the 4-0 dream to reality with a 14-2 win.

On Sunday we were off to the semifinals with the always powerful Victoria Eagles. They gave us a scare with three runs in their first at bat to start the game. However, we quickly answered with four of our own, and those three were all they would get as our boys were not letting anything phase them. Great hit after great hit, and great play after great play lead to a very strong 10-3 win.

Suddenly the destined final was set. The powerful 5-0 Ladner Red Sox were set to face off against our 5-0 Angels. This was a familiar rivalry as the two teams had faced off twice before in two different tournaments; both ending in one run last inning finishes for the bad guys.

Then the epic battle started! The two teams kept going back and forth, matching each other run for run ending in an 8-8 tie at the bottom of the 6th.

The first extra inning, (yes I said the first), had the Angels scoring three runs; only to have Ladner match it with three of their own.

The second extra inning was when our boys showed they had the hearts of lions and scored 7 more runs! Ladner tried to mount a comeback, but our defence gutted it out and shut them down for the emotional finish and triumphant win to go 6-0 and become the Mosquito “A” Provincial Champions.

There are no names mentioned in this summary because every boy on the team was a hero at some point in this marathon baseball victory! We won because of great teamwork, great effort, great dedication and great family support.
